Ixelles will launch a cleanliness plan to reduce litter
To kick off the plan, there will be a two-day public consultation where citizens, organized into working groups, can contribute their ideas and feedback. This consultation will take place on Saturday, March 22, and Monday, March 24. The local authorities aim to raise awareness about cleanliness issues among stakeholders and encourage greater accountability. The Local Cleanliness Plan, once implemented, will focus on:
- Creating an inventory and assessing the current state of cleanliness management within the municipality.
- Establishing goals and prioritizing actions to improve cleanliness overall, with specific focus on areas that need the most attention, particularly by targeting groups that are open to change
- Managing the problem in a comprehensive way by coordinating the efforts of various stakeholders, with special emphasis on collaboration with the Brussels Region.
In addition to these measures, Ixelles will install 11 surveillance cameras to monitor and deter littering, serving as an enforcement tool for the plan.
The Clean Europe Network has praised this initiative, as it aligns with several key principles of its Clean Europe Strategy. Notably, it emphasizes the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in combating litter and the importance of raising awareness about the issue. Effective prevention can only be achieved when all stakeholders fully understand the challenges and consequences of littering.
